When we arrived at the Belmont Country Club on the morning of Shilla and Joon Ho’s wedding it was grey and misty outside but nothing could have dampened the anticipation we felt for the day. The Country Club was historic and elegant and the bridal suite literally took our breath away. Shilla and her girls had been up before the sun getting ready for the day and we could feel their eagerness as they bustled into the suite. Last minute to-dos and finishing touches and we were ready to get Shilla dressed. S studied fashion in school so it was no surprise that every detail of the day was impeccably chosen. From her stunning BHLDN gown, to the daintiest jewels- she radiated a quiet kind of radiance as her sweet mom and big sister helped her get dressed. A mixture of English and Korean swirled around us and we all gasped in delight when we saw the finished product. A bride ready for her groom. Joon Ho moved to the US only a handful of years ago, so while his English is amazing, he chose to quietly exclaim over his bride-to-be in Korean when he saw her for the first time. They couldn’t hold back the grins- their day was finally here and nothing more was standing in the way of becoming husband and wife.
The rain moved the ceremony indoors, but we all agreed that the candle-lit aisle made the room feel magical. My eyes welled up as I watched the Korean custom of bowing to their parents. The love and respect displayed tugged on my heartstrings. Shilla said her vows to Joon in English and he spoke his to her in Korean- an intimate moment I’ll never forget. They weaved through their family and friends at their reception hugging and bowing and smiling. We loved the ways these two incorporated their Korean culture into their wedding day- especially the traditional Korean dress Shilla changed into for her father-daughter dance (I’m still trying to figure out how to get one of my own!!).
Shilla + Joon Ho, we think you two are the most beautiful couple and we can’t wait to see the amazing things you do in marriage. Thank you for inviting us into your lives on the most important day of all. We loved capturing these once-in-a-lifetime memories and can’t wait for you to see some of our favorites today! Enjoy, my friends!
cheers!
